It’s the mods, however, that gives the game a new lease on life. Skyrim: Special Edition receives a good face lift on the Xbox One, as increased lightning effects and texture tweaks make an already pretty game more alluring. What makes this a notable release is the increased visuals and mod support, a first for the platform. But to be even more honest, Skyrim is a damn fine game - blemishes and all. The game’s isn’t that old and, like I said, still enjoys an audience. While there isn’t a Playstation 4 version of Skyrim (it came out in 2011, a year before either the Xbox One or the Playstation 4 was even announced), it should still be able to run on anything equivalent to or better than a Playstation 3.With that in mind, it’s a little strange to see the product on the shelves despite being a poorly kept open secret. According to the report, the Skyrim Special Edition framerate issues are at odds with Sony’s requirements for games to be ported onto the Playstation 4 Pro, which says that framerates must be better or equal to the normal game running on the Playstation 4 console. The report comes from the tech website Digital Foundry, who is the one that broke the story to the Internet. The reason for the framerate drop is apparently that the game is not entirely suited for 4K, as running it at the native 4K output can result in 2 to 3 frame drops dips, even over the game’s standard version.
However, with its framerate being worse on the Pro than on the regular Playstation 4, Skyrim fans that wanted to play it on Sony’s newest console might be out of luck.
The Skyrim Special Edition was first announced at this year’s E3, and offered a revamped Skyrim with better graphics and all of the included DLC.
